So why does this work you ask? Well I read somewhere that Microsoft put cheap heatsinks on the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The solder that connects the GPU to the motherboard becomes…well it gets baked because of the heat the Xbox 360 creates, essentially drying out the solder. This baking causes the solder to become brittle eventually leading to the red circle of death. So the concept is that if you can trap enough heat within the Xbox 360 it will remelt the solder which restores the connection between the motherboard and GPU. While this may work in theory this “fix” is the equivalant to playing a non leathal version of Russian Roulette!
